Personal Profile
Retired from a career as an advertising agency executive and freelance writer, Mark Hopkins has been exploring photography’s artistic potential since acquiring his first digital camera in 2004. Before that, cameras were just things to be carted along on overseas vacations. His attention focuses mainly on the natural world but not to the exclusion of whatever else may look interesting. He and his wife Margie Yamamoto reside in Massachusetts when they are not traveling.
Artistic Statement
" My work in photography focuses mainly on capturing unexpected, compelling images of the natural world. I aspire toward intimate, often abstract, spontaneous compositions that distill the power of its visual richness to engage and nurture the primal sensibilities of my viewers. Nature is dramatic in far more ways than the obvious and banal; it is the territories beyond those parameters where my explorations are primarily directed. "
